7:54 pm - Kitsap/Bangor vs Kings Bay

Hello everyone! My husband will be starting prototype soon and he will have to fill out his dream sheet soon after. The places we are most interested in are WA and GA, but we were hoping to get more info on both. I have looked around, but there isn't really much that I can find. We'd really just like basic info like: what there is to do around, on base housing, off base housing - that kind of thing..

If anyone has been at either, or lived at both, let's chat! :)

7:30 pm - Future Mrs. Navy SEAL
lindsayfroelich Hey ladies,
My fiance and I love eachother very much and not too long ago he told me he wanted to join the Navy SEALs. It is his dream job, and I want to support him, but I have some major concerns. I attend a university in Ohio and I have read that when on base and not on active duty, my SEAL will not be able to visit me because he is only allowed a certain radius to travel from the base. If this is true, and I am still in college, it sounds as thought we will never get to see eachother. If anyone has creditable information please help me out, I'm very concerned.
Thank you!

2:04 pm - Soo many questions, soo little time!

I am new to this whole military experience and technically am not a Navy "wife" yet, but I need help!

He was informed (not through orders but through his CO who filed his orders) that he is going to Japan in as little as 2-3 weeks and he should receive his orders by the end of the week or early next week. I have a billion questions and a billion answers and I don't know where to go.

#1- I have read that in order for the navy to relocate me as well, that we have to be married before his orders are drafted and that I will be on his new orders. The problem is, he was originally supposed to be in training for another year when he was in RSS. He has since dropped programs which is why he might be leaving in 3 weeks. We had planned to get married well before he moved to his fleet, but now that his orders are changing we do not know how this is going to work. We have talked it out and plan to get married before he leaves no matter what. But my question is, since it isn't going to be possible to get married before his orders are drafted, will the navy still relocate me or no? I am not able to relocate until May/June but I am afraid they won't help because we weren't able to get married before his orders came out.

#2- Leaving my job terrifies me. I am an independent, hard working individual. I worked 3 jobs every year of college and still work 2 jobs in order to pay my student loans. I am afraid that moving to japan will prevent me from making enough money to pay on these loans. Is there alot of opportunity on base or in the area that I would be able to get a job without needing to know Japanese? I know that sounds like a terrible and stupid question, but needing over $1k a month in student loans, it is a very important question.

The worst part of all this is the unknown. I am a planner, I like to be able to plan out what happens. I know that is not how the military world works and I am trying to adjust to that. But a move to Japan is not something anyone can be expected to set in stone over night. If anyone can help me...PLEASE, it would be greatly appreciated!

11:44 pm - intro

hi. my husband's currently in OS school. we got our orders for, where else, Norfolk. we havent gotten our move date yet or anything else. which is stressful. when i was a kid, my dad was in the Navy til i was 16 when he retired after 21 years, and i thought this stuff just magically fell into place perfectly. i was so wrong lol. i have an almost 21-month-old son. i know we have next to no chance of getting into housing, but it wouldnt be so bad if the woman from Housing Office would return my calls, or at least BE in the office when i call to let me know the approved apartments i can look at (online). i know she's busy, but i've called nonstop for 4 days now. i have no idea where to look in Norfolk for a decent neighborhood where we wont get murdered. or if i should just look in VA Beach or somewhere else. anyway, i'm in Indiana right now, originally from Norfolk VA, ok Portsmouth (Navy brat here lol). lived everywhere in the US where the Navy could send you except WA state. luckily throughout my husband's boot camp and schooling, our son has kept me too busy to really think about missing him, so i'm hoping he'll do the same during deployments. having experienced deployments as a kid, i'll be able to help our son deal with it in a way my mom couldnt do with my brother, sister, and i. since i can relate to it. the wife side of deployments? no experience whatsoever so far lol. i'm always open for new friends too.

11:39 pm - I need more hellos...

I said goodbye to a friend tonight not realizing that it might be the last time I see him. When my husband goes out to sea this time he will return before the others. And I most likely will not see these guys before they go. What a bummer. I need more good people in my life. I need more hellos and less goodbyes. UGH it kills me! Yes... I will really miss them all this time.

Goodnight world... please let my eyes be drier tomorrow!

3:24 pm - Don't know if anyone still uses this page but...

I have a question. After my son's eye exam at school, it was determined he needed an actual eye appointment which I made easily and everything. My problem comes from this: TriCare Prime doesn't cover glasses? At all? Unless it's "medically necessary". So though he can get the eye exam we have to pay for glasses, should he need them, completely out of pocket. This is my understanding. Is this correct or is there something I'm missing here?

12:00 am - such is the life.... sometimes

There are days I have to remind myself I am in this for the long haul.. .not for the navy but for my husband... for our family. Today is one of those days. I am not here to vent or trash the Navy. I am simply here to say that this job... being a navy wife... is not always fun. We just found out that on our "down time" the boys will be going out to sea for most of the rest of the year. And when they all don't have to go... my husband can not leave the island due to staffing. This means he will most likely miss his daughters first birthday bash at his own families house! More than anything... I just wish I could have some stability rather than feeling a total and utter chaos.

It will be alright in the end. This too shall pass... all those nice words and still... I just feel empty, lost, dissapointed, frustrated, hopeless, lonely, and I'm sure there are more.

Where is the smile I used to have perpetually plastered to my face? I've lost ME in all of this. I want something normal again...

3:27 pm - Need some advice

Since I moved to VA, my husband and I have been having problems with our landlord constantly. We went through a period of time where we were getting no BAH and they were going to evict us - and now we owe NMCRS $3000 dollars for paying our rent - no problem there, everything with our BAH is fixed and such.. But it seems like the company we're renting from is screwing us over. First, they told us we had our trash & water included in rent. Then on the 3rd there's an eviction notice for not paying the water and trash - uh what? Second problem is that have a towing service for the apartments or whatever. Well low and behold I was woken up @ 830 this morning with my neighbor knocking on my door asking me "is your husband here?" "No why?" "Where the hell is your truck?" WTH? My truck got towed for "expired tags" and guess what? MY TAG ISN'T EXPIRED. I have VALID documents proving that it doesn't expire till 12/2010. What irks me is that they have a towing service that tows their RESIDENTS, the people who RENT FROM THEM (and most of them are military at that). I can understand towing people who park in our parking spaces that don't live here but people who live here? Come the f*ck on. So I paid $125 to get my truck and had to fill out a form for a "tow hold" so they won't tow my car "till my documents are verified" and "I get my tags renewed." I was wicked pissed and still am. I feel like we are being jerked around hardcore and I don't know what to do about it.
(It has also been brought to my attention that towing without notice is illegal? We have no signs here and I was also told that you aren't even supposed to tow for expired tags, but it should be reported to the police, if my tags were even expired?)

I am at the end of my ropes with these people, I'm trying to save money and get all that straightened out but it seems like every week, or every month, they have something else that requires us paying them over a hundred dollars for some kind of bullshit. I'm wondering if there is anyway out of our lease besides paying $2000 for five months of craptastic service they have provided us with. Thanks for any info in advance, and this is cross posted to mil_spouses.

5:49 am - Giving birth while he is deployed..

I have a question.. Is it possible to have your husband home for the birth of your child when he is deployed? I have heard that the navy has to give them 3 weeks around the due date.. I'm 21, this is our first child and honestly I'd rather have him there for me.. I don't want to go thru labor alone.. I'm scared to death.. If you guys know anything about this pls let me know.. I have no clue what to do or who to talk to about it..

12:47 pm - HI!

I'm new to the group.. I am a new navy wife in Florida.. I was making my weekly grocery list and thought some of you thrifty shoppers might appreciate this link. It is a really cool website that helps you learn how to save money on groceries mostly.. They sort of overview the weekly ads for grocery stores and tell you which coupons to use to save the most money!! They mainly cover the southern grocery chains like Publix, Bi-lo, harveys/food lion, etc. However they do have some national stores like CVS.. There is a printable coupon section that helps out a lot too :) So go have a peek, roam around and I hope it helps!Don't forget to check out the "getting started section!"

http://www.southernsavers.com is the website

Also if you'd like to know more about me, I just completed my first post on my journal! Like I said, I'm a new navy wife, so any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated!

8:46 pm - Roar.

Soooooo. I'm a bit exasperated. My husband I moved from South Carolina to Virginia a few weeks ago and they told us we would have our BAH back by the 15th of October. Well, that didn't happen and now I'm looking at our pending deposit and it's not coming this payday either (at least it doesn't say it is...). We live off base and our rent is due on the 2nd and I'm getting more stressed out by the second :[ My husband also leaves this week for a month and half and is putting off talking to someone about this and I want to kick him cause obviously us having somewhere to live is a pretty high priority. I don't know what to do about this. Nooo idea. Help? My husband says he can't check his My Pay or whatever because it wouldn't show up till after he gets paid =/
